On
september 10, 2001, my twin daughters Anna and Nell were born in Oslo
Norway. Whereas Nell's welcome into our world was unproblematic, Anna had
a rougher ride. During delivery, the placenta was ripped from the wall of the uterus, leaving
her wihtout oxygen for a prolonged period of time. This caused a severe
brain injury which would eventually prove fatal. As we nursed her at our home the
last weeks of her life, I got my Praktica camera and shot the first
serious black and white images of my life. The results were frightening.
It was as if I had not taken them at all, that they were somehow given to me.
I belive now that these photographs were indeed given to me by my daughter,
in a way only I can understand, and which profoundly changed my life.
For this I thank you
Anna. |
